Thank You, Ryan Carson

Somebody called Ryan Carson recently caused a stink in the UX world by saying that people like me are useless. It appears he holds this view because people like us don’t do HTML and CSS.

When you’re bored or under-appreciated, it’s easy to think that the grass is greener. All I can say to Mr Carson is: be careful what you wish for.

Your response in the comments on Ryan’s site was spot on (and a great insight into an average day for a UX designer!)

I suppose that while the job description for UX designers is so broad, it’s always going to be easy for sceptics to rubbish it as a discipline. But then, I suppose the breadth of the job description is kind of the point….

Indeed. For as long as I can recall, user experience has been all about blind men and elephants.

“O how they cling and wrangle, some who claim
For preacher and monk the honored name!
For, quarreling, each to his view they cling.
Such folk see only one side of a thing”

I freely admit I may be one of the blind men, but I like to think I’m not completely complacent.

Just saw that trainwreck of a post, and wanted to compliment you on your hilariously truthful burn. You’ve easily gained another fan. :)
