Screw You, LOCOG

So, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Limited say they will only let you link to their site if you have good things to say about them. From their “linking policy” on their site:

“a. Links to the Site. You may create your own link to the Site, provided that your link is in a text-only format. You may not use any link to the Site as a method of creating an unauthorised association between an organisation, business, goods or services and London 2012, and agree that no such link shall portray us or any other official London 2012 organisations (or our or their activities, products or services) in a false, misleading, derogatory or otherwise objectionable manner.”

Screw that, breadheads! Let’s all join in the fun!

LOCOG! I think you’ve ruined ┬áspirit of the Olympic games by selling sport to the highest bidder. You’ve reduced London to a “brand”, and turned what should have been a joyful, open event of international co-operation into a paranoid thicket of legal restrictions and controlling urges for the sake of unaccountable multi-national corporations, lawyers and the military-industrial complex. I’m sure Jim Jong-Il would be proud of your linking policy, so I’m linking to you right now, arseholes!

(Oh and Strong Verse, and TechDirt)

Hehe, man, you sound angry! :-D

(But, have to admit: You have pretty solid reasons to be!)

Unfortunately, I think the Western world is going in the direction where the Soviet Union and all the Eastern Europe socialist countries were 20-30 years ago… :-( (Just take a look at the policies “please strip naked because of a possible terrorist threat”, “anyone who carries a Swiss knife might be a killer”, “don’t take your toothpaste on the airplane, you may MAKE A BOMB with it”, “let’s tap and keep archive of all phone and Internet communications of all citizens, WHAT IF one of them is a terrorist and we could later listen to what he said” and so on…)

I suspect this linking bollocks is just the tip of the iceberg. I wonder how they’ll stop you from linking … that would make interesting reading
